Total War: Warhammer III - I receive a “You appear to be Offline Message”. What do I do?

Known Programs to interfere with the online features of Total War: Warhammer III

These antivirus programs have been reported to block the online connection:

BitDefender

Kaspersky

Malwarebytes

Please check your settings and exclusions within these programs. Additionally, you will find further possible approaches below.

 

Disable VPN

Global VPN connections have been reported to disrupt the online functionality of Total War: Warhammer III. Please disable it and try to connect again.

 

Check Firewall Settings

Make sure that Epic Online Services are not blocked by your firewall.

If you are using Windows Defender, please see the steps below:

Windows 10

Set exclusion in your firewall settings:

  • Click on Start and search for Windows Defender Firewall and open it
  • Go to the Advanced Settings in the menu on the left
  • The following steps should be applied to both Inbound Rules and Outbound Rules
  • Click on Inbound/ Outbound Rules on the left, then select New Rule on the right
  • Under Rule Type, choose Custom
  • Next to Services, click Customize
  • Choose the Option to apply the rule to only a specific service
  • In the list select Epic Online Services and click on Apply to this service, then click OK
  • Go to Action in the menu to the left
  • Make sure the option to Allow the connection is checked
  • Then go to Name, name it for example EOS
  • Click on Finish

Windows 11

Set exclusion in your firewall settings:

  • Click on Start and search for Windows Defender Firewall and open it
  • Go to the Advanced Settings in the menu on the left
  • The following steps should be applied to both Inbound Rules and Outbound Rules

  • Under Rule Type, choose Custom
  • Next to Services, click Customize
  • Choose the Option to apply the rule to only a specific service

  • Go to Action in the menu to the left
  • Make sure the option to Allow the connection is checked

If you have a different or additional firewall installed, please contact the according support of your firewall provider.

 

Add the folder of Total War: Warhammer III as exclusion:

In some instances, an antivirus program is interfering with the game.

Instead of adding only the game and Steam application as exclusion, please use the complete folder.

If you are using Windows Defender, please find the steps below:

Windows 10

  • Click on Start and open the settings
  • Select Update & Security and go to Windows Security
  • Open the Virus & threat protection option
  • Under Virus & threat protection settings, click on Manage Settings
  • Scroll down to Exclusions and click on Add or remove exclusion
  • Select Add an exclusion
  • In the dropdown select Folder
  • Locate the Total War: Warhammer III folder within the Steam file path
    • By default, the folder can be found here:
    • Steam: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\
    • Epic Games: C:\Program Files\Epic Games\

 Windows 11

  • Click on Start and open the Settings
  • Select Privacy & Security and go to Windows Security
  • Click on Virus & threat protection
  • Under Virus & threat protection settings, click on Manage Settings
  • Scroll down to Exclusions and click on Add or remove exclusions
  • Then click on Add an exclusion
  • In the dropdown select Folder
  • Locate the Total War: Warhammer III folder within the Steam file path
    • By default, the folder can be found here:
    • C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\
    • Epic Games: C:\Program Files\Epic Games\

Turn of private browsing options

Some antivirus programs offer a private browsing option for your browser.

This could potentially block a proper connection with our online services.

For instructions on disabling this option, please contact your antivirus provider support.

 

Link your CA Account to your game client

If you already have an account, please login to: https://account.creative-assembly.com/en/account

Otherwise, please create an account here: https://account.creative-assembly.com

Under Linked Accounts, select the Game Client on which you own the game.

You will be forwarded to the according client website. Login with your information.

Next, the CA Account website will be shown again, asking you to confirm the link.

Click on Confirm Linking. Your accounts will now be connected.

It is still not working.

In that case we need to investigate further.

Contact us with the following information:

  • Your mp_log file. By default, this can be found under the following file path:
    • Steam: C:\Users\Your Username\AppData\Roaming\The Creative Assembly\Warhammer3\logs
    • Epic Games: C:\Users\Your Username\AppData\Roaming\The Creative Assembly\Warhammer3\EOS\logs
    • Game Pass: C:\Users\Your Username\AppData\Roaming\The Creative Assembly\Warhammer3\GDK\logs
  • Which antivirus program you are using
  • Your DxDiag and msinfo32 file
