If you are experiencing an issue with your game, removing modifications (mods) may resolve your issue, or allow us to better troubleshoot the problem if it persists.
NOTE: you may need to start a new game campaign if your existing/current game save is mod dependent!
Remove mods within the Mod Manager
Start by removing the mods within the Mod Manager. You can do so by:
- unchecking the box next to the mod on the left side under "Installed Mods"
- clicking the x symbol next to the Mod under "Mod Profile".
- selecting "Manage" under "Mod Profile" and clicking on "Deactivate All" (recommended if you have quite the amount of mods)
Additionally, you can unsubscribe by right-clicking on the mod on the left side and select "Unsubscribe".
To re-subscribe, right-click again and select "Subscribe".
Remove mod related files manually
Sometimes, even when unsubscribing from the mod, the game still might try to read mod-related files. It is therefore best to remove these manually. You can either delete the files or move them to a different location on your PC.
Within the installation directory
The easiest way to find the file within the installation directory is to right-click on the mod and select "Open Local Directory". A Windows Explore Window will open. Delete or remove the files.
Alternatively, you can also open the directory by opening the Windows Explorer and going to the following location (default):
Steam: C:\Steam\steamapps\workshop\content\
Note: you will have to click/search through numbered folders to find the respective content.
Delete or remove the files.
Within AppData
Some files will also be stored under AppData.
Please make sure to enable the option to show hidden files and folder:
Select View > Show, then select Hidden items to view hidden files and folders.
Then go to the following path:
C:\Users\Your Username\AppData\Roaming\The Creative Assembly\TWMM\cache\qsum
Once again, remove or delete these files.
After doing all this, it is best to verify the game cache:
- From the Library section, right-click on the game and select Properties from the menu,
- Select Installed Files and click the Verify integrity of game files... button,
- Steam will verify the game's files.
