To collect different animals you will need to destroy Badniks - the enemy robots - in the races. As each one is destroyed, an animal will fly out and be collected by your character. A random animal is obtained from each Badnik.
Each character will give you double reward for one specific animal they are associated with. To find out what animal each character doubles, check the character in the character menu.
