Total War: How to verify if you have any mods and uninstall them

If you are experiencing an issue with your game, removing STEAM Workshop modifications (mods) may resolve your issue, or allow us to better troubleshoot the problem if it persists.

NOTE: you may need to start a new game campaign if you existing/current game save is mod dependent!

You can find a list of mods you are currently subscribed to by doing the following:

A. FROM GAME LAUNCHER

CHECK FOR MODS

From the launch panel of the game, click on Mod Manager.

2. FROM STEAM CLIENT

You can find a list of mods you are currently subscribed to by doing the following:

  • Click on your Library in steam
  • Click on Total War Game in your games list
  • Click on the 'BROWSE THE WORKSHOP' button that appears in the game info in the centre of the screen
  • Click on 'Browse’ Subscribed Items' on the right, underneath the 'YOUR FILES’ header.

To ensure that you have cleanly and correctly uninstalled Workshop mods, press the 'Unsubscribe' button next to any mods you have installed.

CHECK THAT MODS HAVE BEEN REMOVED & VERIFY YOUR GAME FILES!

After removing mods, we recommend checking the install/program paths of mods and to verify your game files (to check integrity of installation) as referenced below.

LOCATION OF MOD FILES

Program Files (x86) > Steam > steamapps > common > [NAME OF TOTAL WAR GAME] > data

Program Files (x86) > Steam > SteamApps > workshop > content

Note: you will have to click/search through numbered folders to reveal content.

VERIFY GAME FILES

  1. Right click on the game
  2. Click on 'Properties'
  3. Select the 'Local Files' tab
  4. Click on 'Verify Integrity of Game Files...' button

If after unsubscribing/deleting mods you find that your issue is fixed, then it is almost certain that your issue is mod related!

We recommend that you refer your issue to the developer of the mod and/or to revert, where possible, to a previous build version of the game.

CHANGE GAME VERSION (PRE-UPDATE)

  1. Right click on the game
  2. Click on 'Properties'
  3. Select the 'BETAS' tab
  4. From ‘Select the beta you would like to opt into’; select game version.

If however your issue still remains, please submit a support request with your DxDiag and when possible, the latest mdmp file.
