What should I do if Football Manager freezes or goes into black screen on launch?

If you find your game freezes indefinitely or is stuck on a black screen on launch, please do the following:

- Go to the following location:

Steam: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\[Football Manager title]

Epic: C:\Program Files\Epic Games\[Football Manager title]

- Right-Click on the FM.exe

- Click 'Run as Administrator'

If that doesn't help, move onto the steps below:

If you're running a Nvidia graphics card, try turning off the GeForce Experience in-game overlay as shown here - http://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/4228/~/disabling-the-geforce-experience-share-in-game-overlay

If that still doesn't work, please continue to the steps below:

- Open Steam and access your Games Library

- Right-click on [Football Manager title] -> Properties -> General -> Set Launch Options

- Type this in the box: --no_exclusive_fullscreen

- Click on OK, close the window and launch Football Manager through Steam

This will enable the game to launch in maximum borderless windowed mode and you should no longer encounter the issue.

If none of the above helps, we would then suggest removing any custom graphics/logos/skins etc, then deleting your cache and preferences, before finally then reverifying the game files via Steam. Details on how to do this below:

Remove Caches and Preferences

Verify Game Files

Once you’ve completed all those steps above in the order listed, please then try relaunching the game (still without any added Workshop or custom files) and see if it now processes past the loading screen. If it does load without issue now and you were trying to add custom files, please close your game down and re-add any custom files to see if the issue is now fully resolved.

If you're still struggling do as follows:

First of all, right-click on your desktop and select 'New' -> 'Folder'

Create a folder and name it something to distinguish it (say ‘SI backup’)

Once you've done this go to your Sports Interactive folder found within 'documents' which by default is at the following location - C:\Users\[YOUR WINDOWS USERNAME]\Documents\Sports Interactive\[Football Manager title]

This should contain folders like 'games', 'crash dumps' etc. Please cut every folder from here and paste them into the folder you've created on your desktop.

Once you've done this and the Sports Interactive\[Football Manager title] folder is now empty, launch the game. If it works, copy back the files from the desktop folder and hopefully it should now load without any issues.

If you have completed all of the above without being able to resolve your issue, please submit a support request for further assistance.

By default this folder is hidden, so to access you need to do as follows:

- Open Finder

- Click ‘Go’ from the menu bar

- Press and hold down the ‘Option’ (Alt) key

- This will bring up the ‘Library’, click to enter then go to ‘Application Support’ -> ‘Sports Interactive’ -> [Football Manager title]
